Mayor's Order: "Stop Horse-Drawn Carriages on July 6 and 7"

Mayor's Order: "Stop Horse-Drawn Carriages on July 6 and 7"

"We welcome the ordinance signed by Mayor Roberto Lagalla that suspends, for the days of July 6 and 7, the activity of horse-drawn carriages. This is a necessary measure, which however should have been adopted days ago. We ask the mayor to have more courage and strength, the same shown in recent days with the request to withdraw the resolution on the "stop of horse-drawn carriages " from the agenda of the Council, extending the effects of the ordinance to the entire month of July and August, in light of the extreme weather conditions that seriously put the health of animals at risk.

The controversies that have emerged in recent days and the newfound sensitivity, even on the part of members of the majority - the same party whose representatives in Parliament continue to oppose the law to abolish horse-drawn carriages - demonstrate how urgent it is to fill a regulatory gap that is no longer tolerable. For this reason, we believe it is essential that the City Council immediately proceed with the approval of the "Regulation for the protection and welfare of animals in the city", already approved with a favorable opinion by the competent IV Council Commission. Therefore, we will return to request the withdrawal of the regulation, as already done at the last conference of group leaders, so that the city can finally be equipped with a concrete and stable tool. This regulation represents a fundamental step in clearly establishing the operating limits for coachmen, the working conditions of animals, periodic health checks and protection measures during heat waves.

We need a modern, responsible and civil vision: a city that aspires to define itself as truly respectful of everyone's rights cannot continue to ignore those of those who have no voice to defend themselves".
